In November 2012, Edwin Clark and his girlfriend, then eight-months pregnant, were walking through an apartment complex on their way to buy a TV.

They hadn’t arrived to the seller’s apartment when two gunmen ambushed them and opened fire.

Clark died on the parking lot of Siena Townhomes in the 1900 block of Simmons Street, near Lake Mead Boulevard, according to Metro Police. Brittany Ysaguirre was wounded in the forearm.

More than three years after the alleged gang-related slaying, detectives have a suspect in custody, according to a Metro arrest report.

William Roosevelt Westry, 32, is locked up at the Clark County Detention Center after his arrest last month.

Police allege Westry, who faces a murder charge, conspired with the two men accused in the shooting, police said. At least one of the gunmen remains at large.

Police issued an arrest warrant Feb. 17 for Anthony Leonard Humphrey, according to court records.

The whereabouts of the second suspect, Martell “Lil Boo” Cleveland, weren’t immediately known.

According to Metro:

The shooting

Clark and Ysaguirre were walking about 4:45 p.m. when a man holding a gun ran between the apartments, pointed the gun, screamed derogatory terms and began firing at Clark. He was shot at least eight times.

The second gunman then shot at Ysaguirre at least five times.

While Clark died at the scene, Ysaguirre was able to run into the apartment of the woman selling the TV, and call 911.

The gang dispute

Before he was gunned down, Clark had been the target of a shooting earlier that year, in July. He was the suspect in another shooting in October.

Westry told detectives after the slaying that there was a rumor Clark was responsible for killing one of Cleveland’s relatives.

Westry, who is a member of Clark’s rival gang, told police he was confronted by Cleveland because he and Clark were working together at a temporary work agency in the days leading to the shooting.

Cleveland and Humphrey told Westry that “he should know they were looking to kill Clark for his part” in the slaying of Cleveland’s relative, he said.

The day of the killing, Westry told detectives, he received a call from Humphrey and Cleveland saying that “they were on their way.”

Later in the evening, Westry said, Cleveland met up with Westry and brought him a bottle of liquor and told him "thanks.”

The investigation

Through phone records, detectives determined that Westry could have been part of the conspiracy, due to the number of calls among the trio on the day of the killing.

“Investigators believe that Westry facilitated the murder of Clark through the communications” among the trio.

On the day of the murder, Westry, who was working with Clark, left work after an hour.

Ongoing investigation

Police never recovered the guns used in Clark’s slaying. According to the report, detectives are confident that Cleveland and Humphrey pulled the trigger and Westry conspired with them. However, they believe there were more people involved.
