Republican Assemblywoman Vicki Dooling today announced she will not seek re-election.

Dooling, of Henderson, called serving the district and state “a great pleasure” but said she needs to focus on personal issues following the death of her husband last year. Dooling was elected in 2014 to represent slightly Democratic-leaning Assembly District 41 in Clark County.

It had been expected for some time that Dooling would not seek re-election.

“I have enjoyed the opportunity to travel the district, meeting and serving the families, schools, and business owners of this great community,” Dooling said in a statement. She added that she will serve the remainder of her term, which ends this year, and will remain active in the Republican Party.

Two candidates have filed to run for her seat: former Democratic Assemblyman Paul Aizley, who represented District 41 from 2008 to 2014, and Republican businessman and political activist Nick Phillips, former political director of the Clark County Republican Party.
