Mountain West Conference presidents have abandoned a plan to reduce its men's and women's basketball tournaments to eight teams after the conference's coaches complained about the original decision.

The conference issued a statement before Friday's semifinals saying the Mountain West board of directors will remain committed to a traditional format that allows all 11 teams to participate in the postseason tournament.

The Mountain West announced in December that it was cutting the conference tournament to eight teams in 2017, a move many conference coaches opposed.

The coaches voted in favor of keeping an 11-team tournament earlier last year, but the conference presidents went ahead with the plan anyway.

Dissention about the decision was discovered in a chain of emails by GoWyoGo.com after a public-records request.
