Court upholds murder conviction in drowning death

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the first-degree murder conviction of Norman K. Flowers, who drowned an 18-year-old woman in her bathtub in March 2005.

The court said Flowers missed the deadline for filing a writ of habeas corpus and it rejected his claim that his attorney provided ineffective counsel.

The court said there was substantial evidence to convict Flowers, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole for 20 years.

The prosecution had sought the death penalty.

Flowers had been dating the victim’s mother, but they had broken up, according to court records.
