A fire this afternoon on the roof of Las Vegas' Ikea furniture store won't affect its May 18 opening date, a company spokesman said.
Construction workers noticed the fire and "acted swiftly and proactively to address the situation," Ikea spokesman Joseph Roth said in a statement. He added that "The building itself remains safe and structurally sound."
According to the Clark County Fire Department:
Firefighters found flames and smoke billowing from the roof and determined the fire had originated from underneath an air-conditioning unit.
The fire was reported at 12:15 p.m. and was extinguished by 12:45.
No employees were inside the building, at 6500 Ikea Way near Sunset Road and Durango Drive, Roth said. There were only a few construction workers on site, he added.
