Court rejects petition by NLV to dismiss lawsuit over police pay

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court has denied a petition by the city of North Las Vegas to dismiss a lawsuit by the city’s Police Supervisors Association over sick leave and holiday pay.

The court sent the case back to District Court Judge Jerry Wiese II for a scheduled hearing Thursday over the dispute.

The city and the police association signed an agreement in May 2014 to freeze all payment for unused sick and holiday time for the supervisors. There is a dispute over whether that agreement expired June 15, 2015, or whether it continued in effect until a new agreement could be negotiated, according to court records.

The association filed suit in October 2015 challenging the interpretation of the city that the agreement continued past June 15, 2015.

The state Supreme Court on Friday refused to overturn a District Court ruling that declined to dismiss the suit and set a hearing to consider evidence.
