Court rules high roller must pay $500,000 casino marker

CARSON CITY — A federal appeals court has ruled that a high roller from Mexico must pay a $500,000 marker he signed for at the Aria in 2010.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday rejected an appeal by Yamil Morales, who challenged the validity of the credit agreement.

The court ruling said Morales “admitted in deposition that he signed the credit agreement with

Aria, that the agreement obligated him to pay Aria back and that Morales never paid it.”

Court records show the Aria presented the credit agreements to a bank in Mexico, but Morales had closed his account seven years earlier.

U.S. District Court Judge Larry Hicks of Nevada had also ruled Morales must pay $57,538 in attorney’s fees and $859 in costs.

The District Court ruling against Morales included an 18 percent interest fee on the unpaid $500,000.
