Unemployment in Las Vegas area falls to 5.6 percent in February

CARSON CITY — Unemployment in the Las Vegas area was 5.6 percent in February.

The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported today there were an estimated 59,000 jobless last month, compared to 68,100 in January, when the rate was 6.5 percent.

Every county in Nevada reported a decline in the unemployment rate. Eureka County was the lowest at 4.6 percent, and Mineral County was the highest at 8.6 percent.

Department Economist Bill Anderson said all metro areas showed job improvements. Comparing February to a year ago in Las Vegas, there were 22,800 more people working.
