Ex-Strip illusionist Rouven indicted in child-porn case; arraignment set

Former Las Vegas Strip illusionist Jan Rouven Fuechtener was indicted in federal court Wednesday on a child-pornography charge and will be arraigned April 6, according to his attorney.

Fuechtener is in custody at the Henderson Detention Center, attorney Jess Marchese said.

The German-born illusionist, who goes by the stage name Jan Rouven, was arrested March 14. His show at the Tropicana was canceled shortly thereafter. An affidavit filed in U.S. District Court alleges that an FBI search of his house netted more than 250 videos and images of very young children on a personal computer.

The allegations are "completely false," Marchese said. "We look forward to getting a trial within 60 days."

Investigators had been looking into the case since Aug. 3, the affidavit said.

The pornographic material was downloaded through a file-sharing program; Fuechtener said he used it to download German television and magic shows, the affidavit said. The images reportedly showed children as young as 3 or 4 years old.

Fuechtener told investigators that "he had no need for child pornography." His husband told them that the performer watched pornography on the Internet "all the time.”

Fuechtener’s April 6 arraignment is set to be followed by a custody hearing involving his incarceration April 19, Marchese said.
