A fire was reported at this vacant house about 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, in the 2200 block of Bristol Bay Court, near Decatur and Lake Mead boulevards.

A fire at a vacant house reportedly being used by a squatter caused about $50,000 in damage, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

The fire was reported about 2:35 a.m. today in the 2200 block of Bristol Bay Court, near Decatur and Lake Mead boulevards. Firefighters found the front door open and heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-story house, officials said.

The fire, which was in a back bedroom, was brought under control within a few minutes, officials said.

A neighbor reported people had been coming and going from the house and that a squatter had been staying there for the past several weeks, official said.

Nobody was in the house when firefighters arrived, officials said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Firefighters from Las Vegas and North Las Vegas responded.
