Ex-driver, 22, facing misdemeanor in fatal bus crash

A 22-year-old has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter for driving a bus that jumped a curb, plowed through a bus shelter and killed a 39-year-old woman on a sidewalk almost four months ago.

Court records show that Jamal Nichols entered his plea last Wednesday, was processed through the Clark County jail and remains free on bail pending trial July 13.

His defense lawyer, Robert Langford, said Tuesday his client is "heartbroken" by the crash and the death of Jooyoung Do.

The Clark County coroner says Do, originally from South Korea, died of multiple injuries in the 5 a.m. crash Jan. 9 near the Las Vegas Strip.

Nichols was dismissed after the crash by Keolis Transit America, contract driver provider to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.
