HBO released a film, “Confirmation,” that covers the confirmation of the Clarance Thomas and Anita Hill scandal. The control of the Republican Party by a few middle-age to elderly men was the same then (in 1991) as it is now.
Today Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is the head shepherd. When you see McDonnell give statements before the news media, he is surrounded by a few of his sheep who help control the rest of the flock. The confirmation of Judge Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court is being blocked by the shepherd, and almost none of his sheep dares question that stance.
After the Hill hearings, in which she represented herself well and passed a lie-detector test that confirmed her testimony, all 52 Republican senators voted to confirm Thomas, which would not have happened if senators were not fearful of going against the shepherd’s wishes.
Let’s vote in fresh blood that is not intimidated by the leadership. Hopefully, there will no longer be a flock.
