CARSON CITY — Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval says he won't be there to support his political party's convention this summer.

A Sandoval spokeswoman said Monday that the moderate Republican governor won't attend the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July.

That's when divisive businessman Donald Trump is expected to be formally nominated as the party's presidential candidate ahead of the November election.

No reason was given for Sandoval's decision to skip the event.

The governor said last week after all other candidates dropped out of the race that he would vote for Trump because the "Democratic nominee is simply not an option."

Sandoval voted for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in Nevada's February caucuses and then he formally endorsed Ohio Gov. John Kasich in April.
