Police in NLV searching for owner of SUV involved in fatal hit-and-run

North Las Vegas police are asking for the public's help in finding the registered owner of a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run wreck Saturday morning.

Qaadir Isaam Amin II, 34, of North Las Vegas, has not contacted police regarding the crash or his Gold GMC Yukon, police Lt. Tim Bedwell said Tuesday.

On Saturday about 5:30 a.m., Clay Stampley, 55, of North Las Vegas, was "driving to work and obeying traffic laws" when his pickup truck was struck by the speeding Yukon on Cheyenne Avenue and Simmons Street, Bedwell said. The Yukon had run a red light, according to police.

Two men in the Yukon walked past Stampley, who was "gravely injured on the roadway and left the scene, casually going west on Cheyenne," Bedwell said.

It's not immediately clear if Amin was one of the men and he hasn't been classified as a suspect, Bedwell said.

Stampley, who was thrown from his truck, died at University Medical Center, police said.

Amin currently has an unrelated warrant out for his arrest for driving with a suspended license, Bedwell said. Though he's a North Las Vegas resident, he is known to stay at multiple places around the valley and has connections to California.

The passenger of the Yukon could also face charges if he doesn't come forward, Bedwell said. He did not expand further on the crash investigation.

Police have "every intention of solving this case," Bedwell said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or crimestoppersofnv.com.
