A former Rancho High School teacher convicted of sexual conduct with a student and kidnapping was sentenced today to six to 15 years in prison, according to a court spokeswoman.

A jury on March 25 found Jason Richard Lofthouse, 33, guilty of multiple counts of sexual conduct with a student 16 to 17 years old and kidnapping, court records show.

The incidents occurred at two hotels and in classrooms last year, according to North Las Vegas Police.

When police showed up to the school to investigate in June, they found Lofthouse standing near the girl in the corner of his locked classroom, according to his arrest report.

During an interview with police, the student initially said she had not had sex with Lofthouse, police said. She later admitted she and Lofthouse engaged in sexual activities at two hotels and in his classroom, police said.

A teacher alerted authorities to Lofthouse’s relationship with the student after another student told her, police said.

Lofthouse had been employed at the Clark County School District since 2010, according to a district spokeswoman.
