Troopers targeting speeders between California, Las Vegas

The Nevada and California highway patrols are teaming up over the Memorial Day weekend to target speeders on Interstate 15 between California and Las Vegas, authorities said.

An estimated 330,000 tourists are expected to visit Las Vegas this weekend, many of them driving in from California. About 45,000 vehicles a day cross the Nevada-California border via the freeway.

Troopers will focus their efforts on speeding, a law that requires drivers to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles on the side of the road, and distracted driving violations, officials said.

Planes will be used to clock the speed of vehicles from the air, officials said.

Drivers will be warned with electronic freeway signs that they are entering a zero-tolerance zone, officials said.
