Man accused of invading home, stealing vehicle

A man who invaded a home and stole a vehicle in the west valley Thursday was arrested after he crashed and tried to steal another vehicle, according to Metro Police.

Police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Joshua Chavira.

He was being held at the Clark County Detention Center on counts including burglary, possession of a deadly weapon during a burglary, home invasion and grand larceny, according to arrest logs.

The home invasion happened about 9:15 p.m. in the 10200 block of Hawk Bay Place, near North Town Center Drive and North Hualapai Way, Officer Jesse Roybal said.

Chavira stole a vehicle from the home and crashed into another vehicle in the 9900 block of Coral Sands Drive, near South Hualapai Way and West Sahara Avenue, Roybal said.

After the crash, he kept going and crashed into a block wall less than a half mile away on Setting Sun Street, Roybal said.

Chavira then got out of the vehicle and ran inside a home with an unlocked door in the 2900 block of Setting Sun Street, Officer Larry Hadfield said. He went into the garage and attempted to steal another vehicle, police said.

The residents, however, were able to detain him until officers arrested Chavira about 9:30 p.m., police said.

Bail was set at $112,000, according to arrest logs.
