Man, 75, loses control of Corvette near downtown Las Vegas, dies

A 75-year-old man died early Saturday morning when he lost control of his car and crashed into a palm tree near downtown Las Vegas, according to Metro Police.

Also according to police:

About 10 a.m., the man was driving a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette west on East Washington Avenue and North Bruce Street at a high speed. He lost control of the car and began sliding sideways before striking a curb. The car continued onto the sidewalk before crashing into the tree, then went back onto the road.

The driver was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.

This is the 44th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.

The crash remains under investigation.
