Motorcyclist killed in northwest valley crash

A motorcyclist killed in the northwest valley crash Friday evening tried to avoid contact with a minivan but lost control and was thrown from his bike, according to Metro Police.

The 33-year-old Las Vegas man died at the scene, police said.

First responders were called about 5:30 p.m. to the intersection of Cheyenne Avenue and Fort Apache Road.

A 2001 Honda Odyssey was making a U-turn on Cheyenne when the motorcyclist, who was eastbound, tried to slow down, causing him to be thrown from his 2011 Kawasaki ZX10R, police said. The rider died when he hit the back of the van.

The 67-year-old driver North Las Vegas van driver was not injured.
