Man killed on US 95 while fleeing police identified

A man fatally hit by a tractor-trailer while trying to elude authorities on a Las Vegas freeway has been identified.

The Clark County coroner's office confirmed Friday that 34-year-old Lewis Borland, of Las Vegas, died Thursday but his cause of death is pending.

Police spokesman Michael Rodriguez says officers tried to pull Borland over because he was wanted for questioning in a Sept. 22 shooting that left one man badly wounded.

Borland drove onto the U.S. 95 near downtown and crashed his vehicle into the median.

Police say Borland then exited the car and tried to run across the highway.

He was hit by a semitrailer and pronounced dead the scene.

According to police records, Borland has prior arrests for DUI, battery with a deadly weapon and other offenses.
