Explosion on house boat at Lake Mead burned man

Authorities say a California man was burned last month in an explosion aboard a houseboat at Lake Mead.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area said in a statement Wednesday night that the explosion occurred Sept. 20 on a private houseboat as the man worked on a generator on the boat.

Park spokeswoman Christie Vanover did not have details about the man's condition Thursday or whether he was still hospitalized. She says hospitals usually only provide an update to the park if an injury results in death.

Vanover says the man had severe burns when he was transported to the hospital in September. Details were not released until Wednesday when an Associated Press reporter inquired about the incident.

Four other people were on board the boat at the time and uninjured.

Vanover did not have details about what caused the explosion.
