Anti-bullying chief becomes head of state aging and disability agency

CARSON CITY — Edward Ableser, appointed last year as the head of Nevada’s new program to stop bullying in public schools, has been named administrator of the state Division of Aging and Disability Services.

The appointment was announced by Richard Whitley, director of the state Department of Health and Human Services. Ableser will succeed Jane Gruner, who retired from state service.

Ableser served 10 years in the Arizona Legislature and supported legislation prohibiting the exploitation of seniors and people with autism.

He took over in October as the first head of the Safe and Respectful Learning Office in the Department of Education. He will earn $117,030 a year.
