Pedestrian hit, killed by truck in North Las Vegas

Updated Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 | 9:43 p.m.

A man walking outside a designated crossing area was struck and killed by a pickup truck in North Las Vegas tonight, according to city police.

Officers were called at 7:20 p.m. to the 3400 block of Lake Mead Boulevard, west of Pecos Road, police spokeswoman Ann Cavaricci said.

The 65-year-old man, who was crossing Lake Mead outside an intersection or designated area, was struck by a Ford F-150, Cavaricci said. He was critically hurt and died at University Medical Center.

The driver stayed at the scene, and neither impairment nor speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, she said.

Police want to again stress pedestrian safety, Cavaricci said.

Pedestrians are told to use crosswalks and make eye contact with drivers to make sure they are seen before walking across a roadway, she said. "All it takes is an extra minute or two" to walk to a designated area before crossing.
