Suspected armed robber arrested after being shot by would-be victim

A man meeting with a woman he'd only spoken to online arrived to the northeast valley location this morning to realize he was being robbed, according to Metro Police.

When an alleged robber, Devennyon Hamler, 25, who had accompanied Jovonna Holleman, 22, pulled a gun, he was instead shot by the victim, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

Officers were called about 3:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire in the 4500 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North, near Nellis Air Force Base, Meltzer said.

About the same time, about a third of a mile away, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Craig Road, Meltzer said. Hamler was found with at least one gunshot wound and was taken to University Medical Center where he is expected to recover.

The robbery victim was not arrested or expected to face charges as of Thursday afternoon, Meltzer said.

Hamler and Holleman were booked at the Clark County Detention Center, jail records show.

Hamler was booked in absentia on counts of armed robbery, conspiracy to robbery, shooting a weapon into a structure, assault with a deadly weapon, owning a gun by an unauthorized person, and child abuse, records show.

Holleman was booked on counts of armed robbery, conspiracy to robbery and child abuse, records show.
