Following a brutal loss last Thursday to Liberty High, Desert Pines needed to right the ship.

Friday night’s 56-6 drubbing of Pahrump Valley was just what the doctor ordered.

“Our kids were really embarrassed from that Liberty game and they just wanted to play somebody, anybody,” said Desert Pines coach Tico Rodriguez. “There was a different intensity before the game.”

The Jaguars raced out to a 42-0 lead at halftime in a game that they controlled throughout.

Quarterback Randal Grimes, who struggled against Liberty since taking over for injured Marckell Grayson, was an efficient 5-of-6 for 98 yards and two passing touchdowns.

“This week we kind of wanted to get him out of the pocket and make it easier for him,” Rodriguez said. “We were still running Marckell’s offense and he’s not Marckell.”

Grimes also added a rushing touchdown, and star running back Isaiah Morris ran for 117 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.
