Former NBA chief Stern among G2E speakers

NBA Commissioner Emeritus David J. Stern will discuss betting’s impact on major professional sports and how the NBA’s expansion parallels the casino gaming industry in one of the keynotes of the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Sept. 26-29 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center.

The former NBA commissioner (1984-2014) is widely credited with the increase in sport’s global popularity as well as the creation of the WNBA during his tenure. He will be joined onstage on Sept. 29 by American Gaming Association President and CEO Geoff Freeman.

“Stern, a proponent of legalized, regulated sports betting, will offer a unique perspective on an issue that has rapidly evolved and represents a significant growth opportunity for the industry,” said Andrew Ortale, AGA’s vice president of industry services.

Among the other G2E highlights:

• Frances Townsend, Homeland Security Adviser in the George W. Bush administration, will speak on “The Power of Being Fearless,” presented by Global Gaming Women on Sept. 26.

• National Indian Gaming Association Chairman Ernest L. Stevens, Jr. and Freeman will share the stage on Sept. 27 to discuss how the associations can join forces to benefit one another and better represent the industry as a whole.

• Scott Klososky, a former CEO of three tech start-up companies and a principal at consulting firm Future Point of View, will discuss developments in casino technology on Sept. 28.

• Nongaming exhibitors will be getting a more prominent spot to showcase products, services and technologies at the year’s G2E. The Integrated Resort Experience, introduced last year and now one of the anchors on the main show floor, will include four major segments – hospitality concepts, technology solutions, food and beverage, and entertainment.

• UNLV’s International Gaming Institute Center for Hospitality will showcase its first Innovation Lab, the debut of futuristic technologies that will eventually be used in the hospitality industry, including a robotic/drone concierge service and virtual reality room tours.

More than 25,000 gaming industry professionals are expected to attend G2E. For the first time ever, the ribbon cutting at G2E will feature an all-female group of executives.
