Las Vegas teen killed in crash identified

A teenage boy who died after crashing into another vehicle in the northwest valley has been identified as Shane Sanders, 16, of Las Vegas.

Sanders died Tuesday from multiple blunt-force injuries, the Clark County Coroner’s office said. Sanders was a former student at Palo Verde High School, said Clark County School District public-information specialist David Roddy.

According to Metro Police:

About 7 p.m., Sanders was riding a Honda off-road motorcycle east on West Alta Drive, near Hualapai Way, when he ran a red light and crashed into a 2015 Toyota Rav 4 that was northbound on Hualapai.

The 34-year-old driver of the Honda came to a stop, but the motorcycle overturned and Sanders was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marks the 80th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2016.

The driver of the Honda was taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries. She did not show any signs of impairment.

This collision remains under investigation.
