A prisoner who escaped from a hospital in Las Vegas on Monday night was apprehended this afternoon near Kingman, Ariz., according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Jay Cantrell, 51, escaped from Muri Stein Hospital, 6161 West Charleston Boulevard, near Jones Boulevard, the department said. Law enforcement officials in Arizona caught him about 3 p.m. today, officials said.

Cantrell was being held at High Desert State Prison, about 30 miles north of Las Vegas, before being moved to the hospital in March. He was serving time for grand larceny, according to the department.

Officials did not say why Cantrell was at the hospital.
