U.S. Sen. Dean Heller and U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, both Republicans, are planning a town hall Monday in Reno.

Vocal crowds, many critical of conservative members of Congress on issues such as immigration and health care, have punctuated events such as this. The town hall is set for 9 a.m. at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, according to a news release from Amodei’s office.

“As a follow-up to an immigration town hall I hosted in December, and in continuation to our discussion at February’s Carson City Chamber event, this town hall meeting will primarily focus on health care and immigration,” Amodei said in the release. “While these two issues will be the focus, this will remain an open forum for people to come and discuss other day-to-day challenges they might be experiencing.”

Protesters were outside a February event in Carson City to greet Amodei and Heller, who has faced criticism for holding private rather than public meetings with constituents. Heller also spoke March 11 at a private town hall event in Sun City Anthem in Henderson that drew protesters.

“As the debate about how to best address our health care and immigration systems moves forward, this town hall meeting is an opportunity to gather important feedback from Nevadans to bring back to Washington,” Heller said in a statement. “I always appreciate any chance to hear from Nevadans, and I look forward to joining Rep. Amodei and those living in and around Reno for a great discussion.”

Heller is scheduled to speak at Keystone Corp.’s annual luncheon at the Las Vegas Country Club on Wednesday and address the Legislature on Monday.
