Rash of fires near Las Vegas Boulevard under investigation

Investigators are looking into a string of fires along or near Las Vegas Boulevard, including a vehicle fire at the Stratosphere, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

Five fires were reported between about 5:20 and 5:50 a.m. Sunday and involved dumpsters, vehicles, landscaping and a vacant building, officials said.

Investigators are not sure if the fires, which were within about a half mile of one another, are related, officials said. Nobody was injured, officials said.

Here is a list of the fires:

• 5:23 a.m. — Las Vegas firefighters responded to a dumpster fire behind a building at 1155 S. Fourth St., a block west of the boulevard. There was no damage to the building, and the fire was quickly extinguished.

• 5:34 a.m. — Las Vegas firefighters responded to another dumpster fire at the Gateway Motel, 928 Las Vegas Blvd. South, a block from the first fire. The building was not damaged.

• 5:35 a.m. — Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters responded to the Oasis Motel, 1731 Las Vegas Blvd. South, where a palm tree, grass and a vehicle were on fire.

• 5:44 a.m. — Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters responded to the Stratosphere, 2000 Las Vegas Blvd. South, for a vehicle fire.

• 5:51 a.m. — Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters responded to a vacant one-story building at 2029 Paradise Road for a fire on the roof. The building is a block east of the boulevard, across from the Stratosphere. Damage was estimated at $10,000.
