Clark County jobless rate climbs to 5.4 percent in July

CARSON CITY — Construction work continued strong in Las Vegas in July, but the unemployment rate in Clark County climbed to 5.4 percent with 57,300 jobless.

The jobless rate in June was 5.1 percent.

Construction employment increased by 500 jobs in July over the previous month, bringing the total 64,400, according to the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

All 17 Nevada counties had jobless rates below 7 percent. The lowest was Eureka County at 3.3 percent. The highest was Nye County at 6.5 percent.

Washoe County had an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent, up from 4 percent in June. Carson City was at 4.8 percent, up from 4.6 percent in June.
