USA Parkway in Nevada tentatively set to open Sept. 8

CARSON CITY — About 200 people gathered for the grand opening of the USA Parkway in Nevada. But both Gov. Brian Sandoval and department of Transportation Director Rudy Malfabon were quick to point out the four-lane highway won't actually open for a week or so.

The Nevada Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/2wg0c5H ) the highway, which connects Interstate 80 to U.S. 50 through the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, is tentatively scheduled to open Sept. 8.

Malfabon says crews are still putting the finishing touches on the final stretch of highway — cable barriers and other safety improvements leading to the roundabout connecting it to Highway 50.

Sandoval says the highway connects the residents of Silver Springs, Dayton, Yerington and Carson City to the growing number of jobs being offered by companies opening at the industrial center.
