Preliminary hearing set for man accused of fatal stabbing

A man arrested in the fatal stabbing of a homeless man last week near Maryland Parkway and Flamingo Road made his first appearance in court today and was given a preliminary hearing date for next month.

Aaron Park, 39, who is charged with murder, responded affirmatively when asked by Las Vegas Township Justice Court Judge Joseph Bonaventure if he understood the charge against him. Park was appointed a public defender after saying he could not afford to pay an attorney.

He’s next scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 23.

Police took Park into custody shortly after stabbing about 1:35 p.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Flamingo, police said.

Officers found a man suffering from at least one stab wound. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.

Park is being held Clark County Detention Center without bail.
