Save my son’s health care’: New TV ads seek to pressure Heller

A health care advocacy group has purchased TV spots in Nevada that target U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, urging him to oppose congressional efforts the repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The ads are funded by the national organization Our Lives on the Line and will be broadcast on cable networks in Reno and Las Vegas beginning today and continue through the weekend.

The 30-second video tells the story of a Nevada woman whose son successfully battled leukemia and who the coalition says could be affected if provisions, such as the preexisting condition clause in the law, are stripped.

“If this law gets repealed, my son is going to constantly be worrying about whether or not he can get health care protection in the future,” his mother says in the ad. “Will he be able to get insurance with the preexisting condition? Sen. Heller needs to know that my son’s life is in his hands. Sen. Heller, please keep your promise. Save my son’s health care.”

Heller has received pressure from conservative and progressive groups calling on him to vote for or against efforts to repeal the current health care law. Several attempts in the Senate on Tuesday failed to pass.

The ad campaign will coincide with rallies across the country put together by the same organization, including in Las Vegas and Reno, to say, “Our lives are on the line if Republicans pass Trumpcare and strip our health coverage.”

In Las Vegas, advocates will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. at UNLV, according to organizers.
