UFC182 Fight With Jones and Cormier

L.E. Baskow

Light Heavyweight Title fighter Jon Jones trades punches with opponent Daniel Cormier as they battle during their UFC182 fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Friday, January 2, 2014.

Jon Jones’ odds to defeat Daniel Cormier dipped as low as minus-150 (risking $1.50 to win $1) before the first time the rivals fought at UFC 182 in January 2015.

It was the smallest favorite Jones had been in his career, and despite having only fought once in the two and a half years since, he won’t drop lower ahead of tonight’s rematch with Cormier at UFC 214. Jones has steadily risen in sports books around town, getting as high as minus-280 to beat Cormier for the second time to regain the light heavyweight title.

He’s settled at minus-260 with Cormier coming back at plus-200 (risking $1 to win $2) before tonight’s main event at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The pay-per-view main card starts at 7 p.m. after the preliminary card airs on Fox Sports 1 at 5 and UFC Fight Pass at 3:30.

It’s the fifth time in his career that Cormier has been an underdog, and he’s prevailed on every occasion except for the Jones fight. At least one member of the Sun’s picks panel is undeterred by the large odds and history.
