The eight high school football playoff games last week in Southern Nevada’s large-school classification were blowouts. One game was decided by 28 points, the other seven by the mercy rule of a running clock.

That won’t be the case tonight in the regional semifinals, especially between Green Valley and host Canyon Springs. The matchup appears to be even between the schools, which have each won their last five games.

Perennial powers Bishop Gorman and Arbor View in the Sunset Region each face an intriguing opponent. Arbor View hosts Legacy, which it beat 28-14 earlier in the season and expects another stiff challenge from tonight.

Gorman, which hasn’t been scored on since Sept. 16, takes on a Faith Lutheran squad with one of the area’s top offenses. Could the shutout streak end at seven games?

In the Sunrise Region, seven-time defending champion Liberty hosts Foothill. In their previous meeting earlier this season, Foothill kept the game close in the first half before Liberty won by nearly five touchdowns.

In the 3A state quarterfinals, Mojave travels to Mesquite to take on Virgin Valley. In the previous meeting this season, Mojave won 26-0. However, Virgin Valley running back Jayden Perkins had 357 yards and five touchdowns in last week’s win, and won’t be easily stopped.

In the other 3A game, defending state champion Desert Pines takes on Sunrise Mountain, which last week won the school’s first playoff game in eight years of existence.

We’ll keep everyone posted as scores become final. Check back for updates.
