Letters to the Editor:

Hefner column hits sour note

I disagree with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat’s recent column (“Hefner doesn’t deserve glowing obituaries,” Oct. 7, Las Vegas Sun).

All of our periodicals like Time, Fortune and Gentleman’s Quarterly are stiff and serious. All of us require some lightness and humor in our reading. I subscribed to Playboy for many years; I even belonged to the Playboy Club. The Playboy women were beautiful, but the magazine also included lots of good fiction and nonfiction articles as well as humor and cartoons. I do not classify any of the photography as pornography.

I have not subscribed to Playboy lately because the magazine has drifted away from light reading and I did not care for the more serious nature of the content. Give Hugh Hefner some credit for his style of putting a little fun in our lives.
