Letters to the Editor:

This isn’t the 1700s

Tragedy has struck again, this time with the massacre in Las Vegas. No city, state or venue is completely immune from the will of those who choose to cause havoc with a barrage of rapid-fire bullets, leaving injured, dead and grieving people in the aftermath.

Of course, as with other mass shootings, the gun debate in Washington, D.C., will rise again.

No one wants to trample on the Second Amendment. The NRA has a firm grip on elected officials. But lawmakers should remember one thing. When the Second Amendment was written, the weapon of choice was a musket. In the time it took to load a musket, the weapons used today can kill 58 and injure more than 500.
