Nursing a two touchdown lead on Saturday with less than a minute to play, Legacy coaches elected to go for it on fourth down in an attempt to close out its win over Centennial.

Longhorns quarterback Roberto Valenzuela faked a handoff up the middle, and sprinted around the corner. Valenzuela sprinted past the first down marker, and then ran 43 yards for the touchdown.

The score cemented Legacy’s 35-14 win to move to 2-0 in the Northwest Division.

“In the Northwest Division there is no breaks,” Legacy coach John Isola said. “It was huge for the division, and it was huge for our mindset.”

Running back Aubrey Washington led Legacy with 164 yards and a touchdown, while Isaiah Whitehead added 58 yards and a score. The Longhorns suffered their first defeat of the season last week at the hands of Liberty.

“Unfortunately losing can be a terrible habit and whenever you take a loss you want to get back to winning,” Isola said. “I think we’ve turned the corner at Legacy as far as winning being a habit.”
