The Arbor View and Shadow Ridge high football teams have plenty in common.

They run similar miss-direction rushing attacks, the schools are located a few miles apart in the northwest valley, and Shadow Ridge coach Travis Foster was formerly an assistant coach at Arbor View.

Both teams are undefeated heading into this morning’s crucial Northwest League contest. In observance of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, all games are being played on Saturday this week, starting at 11 a.m. with Shadow Ridge hosting Arbor View. Other start times are staggered across town — from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Shadow Ridge has outscored opponents 149-45 in its initial three games, but each result came against an opponent not up to Arbor View’s level. And Arbor View won’t be tricked with the Mustangs’ rushing game because its offense is similar.

Arbor View hasn’t lost a league game in three seasons, including rallying last week for a three-point win against Faith Lutheran.

Other games expected to be close include: Sunrise Mountain at Virgin Valley in a 3A classification showdown, Clark at Sierra Vista in Southwest League play, and Centennial at Legacy in the always-tough Northwest.

Defending state champion Bishop Gorman, which hasn’t lost to a Nevada opponent since 2008, plays its first local game at 1 p.m. against host Bonanza.
