Metro investigates video of chicken abuse at east-valley home

Metro Police said they are looking into an internet video that was posted Sunday of a man violently killing a chicken by swinging it by its neck at a house party.

The incident allegedly happened at an east-valley residence, and police said the animal cruelty department is looking into the video, which had 1,700 Facebook views as of 4 p.m. Monday.

According to Nevada animal cruelty laws, “it is illegal to torture or unjustifiably maim, mutilate or kill any cat or any dog or any animal kept for companionship or pleasure, whether belonging to the person or to another. With regard to all animals including dogs, it is a crime in Nevada either to overdrive, overload, torture, cruelly beat or unjustifiably injure, maim, mutilate or kill an animal, whether belonging to the defendant or to another.”

The law also states that if the act is committed willfully and maliciously, it is a category D felony carrying one to four years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
