Elko man gets 5 years prison for attempted casino stabbing

ELKO — A 41-year-old Elko man convicted of trying to stab another man in a hotel-casino parking lot last fall has been sentenced to up to five years in prison.

Carl Bond of Elko originally was charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon for attacking Rick Huerta outside the Red Lion in Elko on Sept. 9.

Huerta suffered cuts and scratches but didn't sustain any serious injuries.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports Bond earlier pleaded not guilty to both counts. A jury found him guilty of the lesser charge on Feb. 16 but could not reach a verdict on the attempted murder charge.

Judge Al Kacin said at Monday's sentencing he'll be eligible for parole after two years.
