How can anyone hold MGM Resorts International responsible for the Oct. 1 mass shooting on the Strip? No hotel screens guests for mental illness or inspects their baggage for weapons. No hotel can anticipate their windows being blown out by gunfire. Every Las Vegas hotel offers adequate security but none can anticipate every scenario. I feel for the victims and their families, but don’t place the blame on MGM. The victims and their families should be compensated for their loss, but not by MGM.
MGM is not suing for money; it is suing to protect its reputation and to make the public aware that it could not have anticipated such a tragedy. As much as I feel for the victims and their families, I also think attorneys are seeking deep pockets. Sometimes things happen that aren’t fair, but let’s place the blame where it belongs — with the shooter.
