The New York Times reports that 100 people in America will die in traffic today (and every day). You can bet that some of them will be from here.
It’s not the roads, it’s us. If you’re going the speed limit, you’ll think you’re parked. I see drivers blowing through stop signs and stoplights every day. I see distractions at the wheel everywhere: phones, lipstick, lunch, anything but the road.
Years ago, I wrote safety ads for GM. My boss told me to make the copy more urgent and more thoughtful. So I did an ad with the headline “Onward Christian Drivers.” GM changed it to “Drive Safely.” Yeah, that’ll work.
