Letter to the editor:

Desalination is the answer

A recent article in the paper talked about Lake Mead and the action necessary to continue drawing water from it if the lake drops another 125 feet.

With all of our uncontrolled development taking place, the first thing that should be considered is how to construct a desalting plant in proximity of the Pacific Ocean and Southern Nevada.

The second area of concern is how to transfer the water from the desalting plant to Lake Mead.

Spending a billion or so dollars in this area is a lot less scary than having an arid Southern Nevada.

Now that the Democrats are in control, I feel certain they will stop the out-of-control, fool’s-gold thinking of the Republicans.

I am a retired civil engineer from California who transferred here to downsize from a 10-acre horse ranch to a senior community. I love the excitement the Las Vegas area provides.

I personally witnessed the out-of-control development created in California by the Republicans, and that is one of the main reasons for the blue wave in both states.

I believe if we stop bickering and start working together, we can get the rising ocean waters to areas in need of water.
