While a lightning storm was illuminating valley skies late Thursday, roughly 24,000 NV Energy customers were without power, according to the utility company.

Stretches of roads in the central valley were in the dark as torrential winds hammered Southern Nevada in the 45 to 60 mph range, according to the National Weather Service. Nellis Air Force Base reported gusts at 63 mph.

As of 12:44 a.m Friday, 7,806 NV Energy customers remained without power, according to the company's outage website.

The weather service advised commuters to drive safely. A flood advisory for the valley and Spring Mountains — which followed a severe thunderstorm warning — was in effect till 12:15 a.m. Friday.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue reported a power pole that snapped in half, causing wires to be knocked to the ground at Revere Drive, near the Meadows mall. A patio awning had blown off.

In the northwest valley, on Rainbow Boulevard near Lone Mountain Road, there were power lines sparking in a tree. Fire crews responded.
