LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Choice for court looms large

The Supreme Court justice nomination carries immense weight. In a country bombarded with extremism, there is no place in the court for personal prejudice from either end of the political spectrum.

Given that the Supreme Court ultimately holds the final interpretation of federal law, it is of utmost importance that all cases are treated with meticulous consideration and candor. The upcoming Senate vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh must reflect this lest we become a country built upon unwavering dogma and a systemic abuse of power.

We must call upon Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., to uphold the tenets that embody what America stands for — a fastidious dedication to equality. A Supreme Court justice must not let personal beliefs interfere with the duty to uphold of the law. All will be affected — those lacking a voice, those without means to express their voice, and the environment — and all must take this matter into consideration.
