In the June 11 letter “Trump Knows Best,” the author argues that the worst thing for America would be to vote in a majority of Democrats in Congress because President Donald Trump is an “amazing keeper” of “deeply rooted American values” and Americans should support him by “voting their conscience.”
The fearmongering and hateful “values” espoused by Trump during the campaign and over the past 18 months of his presidency include: compulsive lying; racial and gender inequality; misogyny; men grabbing a woman’s genitals; collusion with a foreign government and obstruction of justice. These are tools of hate and show how little Trump values such long-held values in this country as honor, integrity, trustworthiness and racial and gender equality.
So in order to restore the values we as Americans believe in, I hope we all vote our conscience and elect a Democratic majority to counter Trump.
