Stolen NV Energy uniform prompts scam warning

NV Energy is warning customers about possible scams after a uniform was stolen out of an employee’s personal vehicle last week.

There have been no reports of any scams employing the uniform, but NV Energy wanted to alert people as a precaution, officials said.

“One thing to emphasize is that we do not show up at our customers’ homes offering unscheduled services,” NV Energy spokeswoman Jennifer Shuricht said. “Our employees always wear photo ID, and customers should always call if they are unsure someone is really NV Energy employee.”

If a customer is behind on their electric bill, NV Energy does not call or show up to their home demanding payment, she said.

Customers who may be at risk of having their power disconnected because of nonpayment will receive a 10-day notice on their bill and 48-hour notice in the mail.

If customers receive a call asking for an immediate payment, they should refuse and call police or NV Energy, officils said. Customers may also call NV Energy’s customer service department at 702-402-5555.

NV Energy performs home energy assessments and smart thermostat installations by appointment only and do not make unscheduled home visits.
