I appreciated Yvonne Gonzalez’s June 9 article “Gun violence, health scare shape Horsford’s bid to regain seat in Congress.” I have decided to be a one-issue voter in the upcoming election. That issue is gun safety.
I don’t want my grandchildren attending school concerned for their lives. I don’t want them apprehensively sitting in their classrooms concerned every time they hear a noise in the hallway. That is no learning environment for anyone.
I will ask every candidate if he or she is in any way associated with the National Rifle Association, and will reject any who are.
There is no Second Amendment protection for those who would hurt children. There is no legitimate rationale for not requiring background checks on every gun transaction, sale or transfer. There is no right for an ordinary citizen to own a military-grade weapon.
Steven Horsford seems to agree with these views; if so, I will cast a vote for him. I’m voting issues, not party.
